boat insurance

Bow to stern coverage, on and off the water.

Each year, after months of cold and indoor activities, when the first days of summer (even before) roll around, family and friends love to take to the water — whether it’s to fish one of the many rivers and lakes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, or water ski and cruise around the Jersey Shore. Before setting out this season, make sure your checklist includes having the right type of boat insurance for the type of vessel you have.

Martin Insurance Group can evaluate the boat insurance coverage you presently carry to make sure it’s right for you. If you’re purchasing a new watercraft or looking to see if you can get better coverage and better pricing, we’d be happy to see what we can do for you. We insure many types of boats — from yachts, bowriders, cabin cruisers, sail boats, and high-performance boats to inboard ski/wakeboard boats, fish and ski boats, and much more.

At Martin Insurance Group, we have over 30 years of experience working with clients, including individuals and families in Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties, as well as Bucks County, PA. We can use this experience and expertise to review your personal insurance needs and determine which policy or group of policies are best for you.

A broad selection of coverage and special options available.

There are several factors you need to consider. A boating accident can cause significant damage to other people’s property as well as serious injuries. So your boat policy should have liability coverage that is sufficient enough to protect you and your assets in the event of an accident. The policy should also provide bodily injury coverage for your passengers as well as protection in the event an uninsured or underinsured boater damages your watercraft.

Coverage for damage to the boat itself is included under the property portion of your boat policy to pay for repairs should a collision occur. We can review the limits and type of coverage available so that the value of your boat is properly insured. You may also want to consider obtaining insurance for personal property — and maybe even specialty items — that you have on the boat, such as high-end fishing equipment. In addition, comprehensive coverage will insure against losses caused by storms, vandalism, or other non-accident incidents.

There also special options available that can be added. For example, some policies can be enhanced to add haul-out provisions to keep your boat safe during severe weather, as well as towing and salvage coverage. Some policies can also cover the costs of fuel spills. Those with smaller craft may also be interested in a policy that covers trailering. Our staff will discuss the available features with you.
